Original CDV Confederate General George Tig Anderson

Back mark: E&HT Anthony, New York

This card is pretty clean overall, there are no cuts or trims on it. His last name is written on the upper back. This is the same view as in the book, Generals in Gray. 

 

He was born in Covington, Georgia on February 3, 1824. He was a student at Emory College, Oxford, Gerogia. He was elected Colonel of the Eleventh Georgia Infantry in 1861, he acted as Brigade Commander during the Battles of the Seven Days, at Second Manassas, and at Sharpsburg. He was appointed Brigadier General on November 1, 1862. He fought at Fredericksbrug, Gettysburg (where he was severely wounded), Chickamauga, Knoxville, and through the Virginia Campaign of 1864. He died on April 4, 1901 in Alabama and is buried in Edgemont Cemetery.

This card is in decent shape overall. There is a little pin hole at the very top and his name written on the lower front. There is the fancy border around his picture. The corners are slightly rounded. 

 

 

He was the only president of the confederate army in the existence of the confederacy. He was captured towards the end of the Civil War and was in prison.

This CDV is in pretty good shape overall, the bottom is very slightly trimmed. His name is written in pencil on the lower front and upper back of this card. This is the same view as in the book, Generals in Gray. 

 

He was born in South Carolina, probably at Charleston on August 24, 1808 and graduated from West Point in the same class with Jefferson Davis who was his life long friend, in 1828. His brother was a Caption in the Union Navy. Early in the Civil War he was appointed a Brigadier General in the Confederate Army on September 25, 1861. He took part in the battles of Second Manassas, South Mountain, and Sharpsburg. He died in Florence, South Carolina, on February 18, 1891 and is buried in Charlotte.

This CDV has no cuts or trims on it. It is starting to show its age, you can see the condition of the card. This is the same view as in the book, Generals in Gray. Very hard CDV to obtain. 

 

He was born at Otterburne, Campbell County, Virginia on April, 25. 1840. He was appointed to West Point in 1858 and resigned from the Military Acc. on April 22, 1861 and entered the Confederate Service as a Lieutenant of the Washington Artillery. He served in that arm until after the Battle at Gettysburg, where he commanded a battalion of guns with rank of major. He then was transfered to the cavalry and promoted Colonel. On April 29, 1864 was commissioned Brigadier General. He fought in the Petersburg Campaign. On the retreat to Appomattox on April 6, 1865, during an action at High Bridge, General Dearing was mortally wounded, while engaged in a pistol shootout with Federal General Theodore Reed, who was killed. He died on April 23, 1865 and is buried in Springhill Cemetery, Linchburg.

This CDV is in pretty nice condition overall, there are no cuts or trims on this card. His name is written on the upper back, but otherwise very clean. 

 

He was born in Huntsville, North Carolina on July 27, 1812. He graduated from the State University in 1832 and was admitted to the Bar in 1834. He was commissioned Colonel of the 25th (formally 15th) North Carolina Infantry. His principal War service was in North and South Carolina until spring of 1864, when his brigade was ordered to Virginia. He was present at Cold Harbor, Drewry's Bluff, and Petersburg. He was wounded in the battle on the Weldon Railroad in August, he was so badly wounded he was unable to rejoin his command until a few days before the surrender at Greensboro. He was appointed as Brigadier General on May 17, 1862. He died at Morgantown, North Carolina on November 3, 1897 and is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Ashville, North Carolina.

This card is in pretty nice condition overall, as you can see. There are no cuts or trims on this card. There's no writing on this CDV at all (clean). This is the same view as in the book, Generals in Gray. This is a very rare and hard to get CDV. 

 

He was born at (Bonarva) The family home in Tyrrell County, North Carolina on July 4, 1828. He entered the University of North Carolina at the age of 15. He was so smart opon his graduation that President Polk in 1847, tendered him an appointment as assistant Professor, at the Navel Observatory, in Washington. As a Colonel in 1861, he saw service in Charleston Harbor during the fateful days of April and enlisted in Hampton Legion. He was elected Colonel of the 12th South Carolina. He was commissioned Brigadier General on February 26, 1862. He served under General Joe Johnston in the Peninsular Campaign. He was severely wounded and captured at Seven Pines. His command of the defences of Petersburg and of North Carolina. He was in Heth's divison of the A.P. Hills Corp during the Gettysburg Campaign.  On the third day of Gettsburg, he attacked the center of the federal line. He was fatially wounded shortly before noon on July 14, 1863 at Falling Waters, Maryland by a dash of Federal Calvary. He died three days later, near Bunker Hill, Virginia and is buried at "Bonarva".

This CDV is in pretty good shape overall, there are no cuts or trims on this card. There is no writing in the front and very little writing on the back. This card is pretty clean overall. 

 

He was born in Columbia, South Carolina on August 1, 1814. He attended South Carolina College. He was comissioned Colonel of the first South Carolina Infantry. He was comissioned Brigadier General on December 14, 1861. He took a distinguished part in the Peninsular Campaign of 1862 in the battle of Cedar Mountain, second Manassas, Harpers Ferry, and Sharpsburg in General A.P. Hill's division. He died in a near by residence on December 15, 1862. He is buried in Columbia, South Carolina.

This CDV is in pretty good condition overall, there are no cuts or trims on this card. His name is written in pencil on the upper back and has CSA. 

 

He was born in Tennessee, in Warren County on October 2, 1817. On May 18,1861, Gov. Jackson of Missouri commissioned Rains a Brigadier General of the Missouri State Gaurd, to head the Ath Division. He lead the Ath in the battle of Wilson's Creek, Lexington, and Pea Ridge, and was wounded in the Latter Battle. On May 19, 1880, Rain died at his Kaufman County home and was buried in Lee Cemetery in Seagoville, Dallas County.

This a really clean CDV overall, there are no cuts or trims on it. His name is written on the bottom front and back. This card has an cancelled orange 2 cent tax stamp that is dated to be Sept. 27, 1863. This is the same view as in the book, Generals in Gray.

This card is pretty nice overall, clean from the front to back. Nice sit down pose with sword. Peck is pretty hard to come by. 



He was a native of Jefferson County Tennessee. He was born on January 31, 1818 and died on January 22, 1871. He is barred at his family cemetery in Jefferson City, Tennessee. He enlisted at Camp More in the 9th Louisiana Infantry as a private. He fought in every engagement of the army of northern Virginia there after.

This CDV is in pretty nice shape overall, it has no cuts or trims on it. It has "Rooney" written on the upper back. This is the same picture as in the book, Generals in Gray.

He was the second son of Robert E. Lee and called "Rooney". He was born in the Custis Home in Arlington on May 31, 1837. He was educated at Harvard and was commissioned directly into the United States Army in 1857. Lee resigned and promptly entered Confederate Service at the outbreak of the war. He was Colonel of the 9th Virginia Cavalry. He was promoted Brigadier General on September 15, 1862. He was severely wounded at Brandy Station the following June. He was promoted Major General on April 23, 1864. Following the war, he returned to farming. He served as President of the Virginia Agricultural Society, and for four years a state Senator.  He died on October 15, 1891 and is buried in Lexington.

This CDV is in pretty nice condition overall, it has no cuts or trims on it. His name is written on the upper left of the card, it does not effect the image. His name is also written on the upper back as well. It is the same picture as in the book, Generals in Gray.

He was born at Savannah, Georgia on October 30, 1830. He graduated from West Point in 1853. He was promoted Brigadier General on March 14, 1862 and was attached to John Breckinridge's division at Shiloh where he was wounded. He was commissioned Major General on May 25, 1863. He fought in all the battles preceding the Siege of Vicksburg. He died a paroled prisoner of war near Raymond, Mississippi on July 13, 1863. 24 years after his death, his remains were brought to Vicksburg and buried in a Confederate Cemetery.

This card appears to have a written place where the back mark is supposed to be. This CDV picture is in nice condition. The corners are trimmed and the card might have been trimmed with the previous owner before me. His name is written on the upper front and lower back as you can see. This is the same view as in the book, Generals in Gray.

 

He was the oldest officer in the old army to take up arms for the Confederacy. He was born in Richmond County, Georgia in 1790. On May 22, he was appointed Major General in the Confederacy. He was the senior officer of that grade. He was too old for active duty. He was assigned to command the district of Lousiana. He died on July 15, 1862, near Augusta, Georgia.

Original CDV Confederate General Raleigh E. Colston

This card is starting to show its age. His name is typed at the bottom and there is no writting on the front or back of this CDV. This is the same view as in the book, Generals in Gray. 

 

He was born by birth a Frenchman and he was adopted by a Virginian physician in France. He was born in Paris on October 31, 1825. He was sent to the United States in 1842, and entered the Virginia Military Institution and gradutated four years later. In 1861, he was appointed Colonel of the 16th Virginia Infantry. He was promoted Brigadier general on December 24, 1861. He commanded a brigade in the Peninsular Campagin and in April 1863 he was assigned a brigade in Stonewall Jackson's Corps in which he commanded Trimble's Division. He served under General Boregard in the Defense of Petersburg. He died on July 29, 1896 in a Confederate Soldier's home in Richmond. He was buried in Hollywood Cemetery.

This is the same view as in the book, Generals in Gray. This card is in pretty nice condition. They wrote Butler on the upper back of the card his name on the lower front of card. It had not been trimmed or cut at all. This is the only image of him in 25 years that I have seen. 



He was born on March 8, 1836 in Greenville S. Carolina. He was educated at South Carolina College. He was Commissioned Brigadier General from September 1, 1863 and Major General from September 19, 1864. He was honorable discharged on April 15, 1899 after serving as a member of the commission for the Spanish Evacuation of Cuba. General Butler died in Washington on April 14, 1909. He is buried in Edgefield South Carolina.

He was born at Port Royal, Virginia on May 1, 1807 and graduated from West Point in 1830. He was appointed Brigadier General of the Confederate Army on June 17, 1861, and Major General on October 7. He distinguished himself in the early part of the Peninsular Campaign. He fought in the Seven Days Battles, and was in command of the District of Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. After the war, he went to Mexico with General Joe Shelby to fight for the emperor Maximilian. He made his home in Huston, Texas, where he died on February 18, 1871.

This CDV is in good condition overall, there are no cuts or trims on this card. There's no writing on the front or back of this card. This pose is a variation of the picture in Generals in Gray. 

 

He was born in Georgetown, DC on February 8, 1817. He graduated from West Point in 1840. He was comissioned Brigadier General on June 17, 1861 and Major General on Janurary 24, 1862 and Lientenant General to succeed Stonewall Jackson in command of the Second Corps, on May 23, 1863. He fought at First Manassass in the Velley Campaign of 1862, the Seven Days, and the Second Manassass Campaign, where he lost a leg at the battle of Groveton. He was equipped with a wooden replacement. He fought from Gettysburg to Spotsylvania. He was captured at Sailors Creek on April 6, 1965. He died on Janurary 25, 1872 in Tennessee and is buried in the Old City Cemetery, Nashville.

This card is in really nice shape, on the upper back it has his name written on it. This is the same picture as in the book, Generals in Gray. It has no cuts or trims. 



He was born on in Huntsville Alabama, June 1, 1825. His two sisters married General A. P. Hill and Basil Duke. He was a Calvary General that made raids in Ohio and became legendary figure of the confederacy ranking him as high as Jeb Stuart. He was captured and sent to Ohio State Penitentiary contriving to escape and make his way south. September 4, 1864 that morning he was surprised by a detachment of Union Calvary and was killed in the garden of the house where he had been sleeping. He is buried in Lexington, Kentucky.

He was born at Beaufort, South Carolina on October 26, 1830. He attended Harvard and graduated from South Carolina College in 1850. His Civil War service from 1861 to 1864 was entirely in his native state. He took part in the defense of Port Royal. He was promoted to Brigadier General on May 24, 1864. He died at Aiken on February 21, 1866 and is buried at Beaufort, in the Church Yard.

He was born near Louisville, Kentucky on October 16, 1816. He was educated in Kentucky and at Harvard where he received his law degree in 1838. He was appointed Brigadier General from April 14, 1862 he took part in battles of Corinth, Murfreesboro and Chickamauga. In 1864 he was appointed Confederate Minister to the Imperial Mexican Government. In 1865 he obtained the rank of Major General. He died in Lexington on September 21, 1887 and is buried in Louisville.

This card is in nice shape nothing written on the front. They wrote his name on the upper back of the card and there are no trims or cuts on the card.



Wade Hampton was born in Charleston South Carolina, March 28, 1818 and graduated from South Carolina College in 1836. In 1861 he was reputed to be the largest land owner in the south. He organized the Hampton Legion of which he became colonel. He participated in the battle of first Manassas. He commanded an infantry brigade in the Peninsular Campaign and was appointed Brigadier General on May 23, 1862. From 1893-1899 he was in command of the Pacific Railroads. He died at Columbia, South Carolina, April 11, 1902 and is buried there also.

​Down by his knee he has a scruff mark, but the overall condition of the CDV is in pretty good shape. On the upper back he has his name written on the card. A full view standing of General Tilghman. It is the same picture as in the book, Generals in Gray. 



He was born at Rich Neck Manor near Claiborne, Maryland on January 18, 1816. He graduated from West Point in 1836. He became Brigadier General on October 18, 1861.On May 16, 1663 while directing the fire of his artillery in the battle of Bakerscreek Champion Hill he was struck in the chest by a shell fragment which passed through his body. He is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, New York.

He was born in Hardin Country, Tennessee, January 6, 1827. He graduated West Point in 1849. He was appointed Lieutenant Colonel of the Eighth Alabama Infantry. He was appointed Brigadier General on May 19, 1863. On March 31, 1906 he died in New York City and is buried in Clifton Spring, New York.

This is a really clean CDV. There are no cuts or trims on it. The front and back of the card are very clean with no writing on them at all.

 

He was born in Charleston, South Carolina on November 22, 1805. He graduated from the US Military Academy in the class of 1825. He entered service for the Confederacy and was appointed Brigadier General on June 17, 1861 and Major General on October 7, 1861. He was relieved of field command on July 12, 1862 and was assigned as inspecter of artillery and ordnance. He died on December 7, 1877 and is buried in Greenmount Cemetery, Baltimore.

The condition is very good overall on the front. On the back has a lot of writing of the history of Frost. No trims or cuts on the card at all. This is the same picture as in the book, Generals in Gray. Full standing view of him. This is the only card I have ever seen of Frost. 



He was born in Schenectady County, New York on August 9, 1823 and graduated from West Point in the class of 1844. He fought in the Mexican War. He was appointed Brigadier in the Confederate Army from March 3, 1862. He was offered command of a brigade of Missouri State Troops at the battle of Elkhorn, but declined. He died October 29, 1900. He is buried in Calvary Cemetery, St. Louis.

This CDV is showing a little aging, and his name is written on the upper back in pencil. There are no cuts or trims on this card. This CDV overall is in pretty nice condition. This is the same view as in the book, Generals in Gray.

 

He was born in Williamson County, Tennessee on June 8, 1806. He graduated from the University of Nashville in 1827. He ran for office in 1852, and 1856 for Vice Presidency but was declined. In 1861, he was appointed Brigadier General in the Confederate Army. He was at the battle of Belmont, Missouri in November of 1861. He was in second command at Fort Donelson, the following February. He died near Helena, Arkansas on October 8, 1878 and is buried in Memphis.

This card is in really nice shape, it has no cuts or trims. It has his name written on the upper back. This is the same view as in the book, Generals in Gray. 



General Garnett is a cousin of General Robert Garnett. He was born at Rose Hill Essex County, Virginia on November 21, 1817. He graduated at West Point in the class of 1841. He went to the Florida war of 1841-1842. He was commissioned a Major in the regular confederate army and on November 14, he was Brigadier General in the army. He commanded the Stonewall brigade at Kernstown. On the third day at Gettysburg his brigade of five Virginia Regiments was in the front rank of Pickett's assault. Some twenty yards from the federal battle line, Garnett disappeared in the Holocaust of flame and smoke, and a few moments later his riderless horse streaming blood came gal lapping to the rear. He died July 3, 1863 at Gettysburg.

This CDV looks like it's aging a little, but it's in nice condition overall. There are no cuts or trims on this card. His name is written on the upper back. This is the same view as in the book, Generals in Gray. 

 

He was born on July 31, 1825 at Frankfort, Kentucky and was educated at Kenyon College, Ohio in Century College in Kentucky. In 1861 he was appointed captain of Infantry in the CSA and Lieutenant Colonel in the 1st Kentucky Infantry. He was Colonel on October 14, 1861. He was appointed November 4, 1862 as Brigadier General. He commanded a brigade at the Cumberland Gap and in Kentucky. When he returned to Kentucky, for 5 years he was a deputy U.S. Marshal, and also served a total of 11 years as Chief of Police of Louisville. He died there on April 12, 1901 and is buried in the state Cemetery at Frankfort.

This CDV is in really nice condition, it has no cuts or trims on it. It has a cancelled 2 cent orange stamp on the lower back, and his name is written on the upper back. This is the same picture as in the book, Generals in Gray.

He was born at Augusta, Georgia on September 10, 1836 and graduated from West Point in 1859. On September 4, 1861 he was appointed Colonel of the 19th Alabama Infantry. He was promoted Brigadier General on October 30, 1862 and Major General on January 20, 1863. He commanded the Cavalry during Bragg's invasion on Kentucky at Murfreesboro and in the Chattanooga Campaign. He resided for a time in New Orleans after the war. General Wheeler died in Brooklyn, New York on January 25, 1906 and is buried in Arlington.

This is a really nice CDV with no cuts or trims on it. On the upper back it has his name written on it. This is the same picture as in the book, Generals in Gray. This image is pretty tough to get.



He was born on March 23, 1825 in Clarke County, Georgia. He graduated from Emory College in 1846. He served in the war with Mexico. The outbreak of the Civil War he was appointed Colonel of the 35th Georgia Infantry. He command at Seven Pines and during the seven day battles. He was wounded at Mechanicsville. After his recovery he fought in ever major engagement of the army of Northern Virginia, with the exception of Sharpsburg. He died at South Mcalester, Indian Territory on March 8, 1898. He is buried in Kiowa, Oklahoma.

He was born in Philly, PA on August 10, 1814 and was graduated in the class of 1837 at West Point. He resigned from the old army on April 24, 1861. He entered the Confederate service as commander of the Department of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. He was rapidly promoted from Brigadier General on June 17, 1861 to Major General ranking from January 14, 1862 and to Lieutenant General ranking from October 10, 1862. He was assigned to the command of the Department of Mississippi and Eastern Louisiana. He died on July 13, 1881 at Penllyn. He was buried in Philly, PA.

Original CDV Confederate Captain Raphael Semmes

The condition of this CDV is in pretty good shape overall, there are no cuts or trims on this card. There is a little bit of pencil writing on the upper back of this card. 

 

Semmes was a Confederate Sailor and part time General and was born on September 27, 1809 in Charles County, Maryland. The son of Richard Thorton Semmes. On April 4, 1861 he was comissioned Commander of the Confederate Navy and assigned to the head of the Lighthouse Bureau. He proceeded to England to take command of the CSS Alabama. He was promoted to Captain in 1862, and in 1864, the Alabama was sunk by the USS Kearsage. In 1865, Semmes was promoted to Rear Admiral. Semmes died on August 30, 1877 and is buried in the Catholic Cemetery in Mobile, Alabama.

This CDV is in pretty good condition overall, there are no cuts or trims on it. His name is written on the lower back. This view of Hanson is a lot harder to get than the view of him in his Confederate Uniform. 

 

(Old Flintlock) He was born in Clark County, Kentucky and was born on August 27, 1827. In 1861, he was enrolled in the Kentucky State Guard as a colonel. He was promoted in 1862 Brigadier General. Hanson was mortally wounded on January 2, 1863 and died 2 days later in a house near the battlefield. The battle was Murfreesboro, and he is buried in Lexington, Kentucky.

This card is in overall good condition, no cuts or trims. It has his name written on the lower front and on the lower back. Number 794 is written on the upper back, but it does not ruin the back mark. It is the same picture as in the book, Generals in Gray. 



He was born at Elmwood Somerset County, Maryland on December 18, 1816. He graduated from West Point in 1837. At the outbreak of the Civil War on April 25, 1861 he entered the Confederate Army as colonel of the First Maryland Infantry. He was promoted Brigadier General for his services at the battle of First Manassas. He fought in the Shenandoah Valley Campaign of 1862 and in the beginning of the seven days fighting around Richmond. He was commissioned Major General on December 4, 1862. He was given command of the department of Richmond. Towards the end of the war he acted as Chief of Artillery for the Army Tennessee. He died in Baltimore, February 21, 1871 and is buried in Greenmount Cemetery.

This is a really nice looking, clean CDV. It has no cuts or trims. His name is spelled on the upper back of the card. 



He is born in New York City, January 29, 1823. He was appointed to the Military Academy from Iowa, and he graduated four numbers above U. S. Grant in the year of 1843. He subsequently won two brevets for Gallantry in Mexico. He was appointed lieutenant colonel of infantry in the regular confederate states army on March 16, 1861. His early services were in Tennessee and Mississippi. He was present at Shiloh in command of a brigade of cavalry after which he was promoted Brigadier General to rank from April 11, 1862. He was appointed Major General December 13, 1862 and was confirmed on June 10, 1864. He died in Louisiana on April 29, 1873 and that is where he is buried.

This card is pretty clean overall, there are no cuts or trims on this card. His name is written on the upper back in pencil. This is the same view as in the book, Generals in Gray.

 

He is a native of what is now, West Virginia. He was born in Cabell County on November 10, 1830. He graduated from Jefferson College in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania in 1848 and from Harvard Law School two years later. In April of 1861, he recruited a company of caverly in the Mountain Counties of WV. Soon he rose to colonel of the 8th Virginia Caverly, in which he preticipated in a number of demoralizing raids. He was elected to the first regular Confederate Congress and was shortly promoted Brigadier General on August 5, 1862. He was severely wounded at Gettysburg. General Jenkins was wounded and captured at Colyd's Mountain near Dublin in Pulaski County. His arm was amputated at the shoulder by a federal surgen and felling to rally from the opperation, he died on May 21, 1864. He is buried in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington, West Virginia.

This CDV is in pretty good shape overall, with no cuts or trims at all. There is no writing at all on the front or back of the card. The CDV seems to have a slight wave in it. This view of him in his Confederate Uniform is of rank of Major. 



Known as the partisan kid. Born on December 6, 1833 and died on May 30, 1916. Was also called the "Gray Ghost" he was the commander of the first Virginia Calvary in the American Civil War. Was known for eluding the Union Army and was famous for his quick raids.

This CDV is in pretty good shape overall, it has no cuts or trims. On the upper back there is a couple letters and numbers written (I'm not sure what it means). This picture is a variation of the picture in the book, Generals in Gray. 



He was born at Stratford in West Morelind County, Virginia on January 19, 1807. He was the overall highest ranking general throughout the Civil War for the Confederacy. He was the high command of the Northern Virginia army.  He fought in pretty much ever major battle East of the Mississippi River. (There is a lot of history on him, too much to write even a fraction of it) He died at Lexington on October 12, 1870 and is buried there. He was the president of Washington College at Lexington, Virginia.

This image is a Salt Print. This card is pretty clean overall, with no cuts or trims. It has his name written on the lower back. This is the same picture as in the book, Generals in Gray. 



He was born in Edgecomb County, North Carolina on February 6, 1834. He had an appointment to West Point at the age of 16, and graduated in the class of 1854. On March 21, 1861 he entered the confederate army as colonel of the Third North Carolina. He was promoted Brigadier General at Seven Pines on June 3, 1862; and was given command of a brigade in A. P. Hills division. He fought at the seven days, Chancellorsville, he was promoted Major General on May 27, 1863. He lead his division to Gettysburg where on the second day he was wounded in the leg by a fragment of shell. From his wounded at Gettysburg he failed to rally dying in Staunton on July 18. His body was taken to North Carolina and buried in the yard of Calvary Church at Tarboro.

He was born in North Carolina on May 29, 1824. He attended the University of Nashville and West Point and graduated in 1846. In the Civil War he fought at First Manassas as colonel of the 9th Alabama infantry. He was promoted to Brigadier General on October 21, 1861. He fought with the army of Northern Virginia in virtually all of its major battles. He was made Major General after the Gettysburg Campaign from August 3, 1863. He died on December 2, 1890 and he is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, in Washington.

He was one of the high ranking generals in the Confederate army. He was born in Dutchess County, New York on June 12, 1798. He graduated from West Point in 1815. On March 7, 1891 he was immediately appointed Brigadier General in the Confederate army. At the end of the war he retired to his farm near Alexandria, Virginia. He died there on December 3, 1876 and is buried in Christ Church Cemetery, Alexandria.

This CDV is starting to show its age. Some history is written on the back of this card in pen. There are no cuts or trims on this CDV. This is a variation picture of the image in the book, Generals in Gray.

 

He was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia on Jan 21, 1824. He graduated from West Point in 1846, in a class which was to furnish 24 General Officers to the United States and Confederate Armies between 1861-1865. He was a colonel of the Virginian Minitia and was ordered to command at Harpers Ferry. He was promoted Brigadier General on June 17, 1861. He fought in First Mannassas, where he got his nickname the Stonewall. He was promoted Major General On October, 7, 1861. In November, he was dispatched to the Shenandoah Valley. He fought in other engagements also. Stonewall fought in Chancellorsville, on May 2, 1863, where he was wounded by his own troops at night while a reconnaissance with members of his staff. He died on May 10, from pnmonia which developed after the amputation of his left arm. General Lee quoted "He lost his left arm, but i have lost my right arm." General Jackson is buried in Lexington, Virginia.

He was born in Warrenton, North Carolina on March 22, 1817 and graduated from West Point in the class of 1837. He fought against the Seminoles and served gallantly in the Mexican War. On March 7, 1861 he was appointed and confirmed Brigadier General in the Provisional Army of the confederate states. He was promoted Major General on September 12, 1861. He became chief engineer of Alabama post bellum and later moved to Galveston, Texas, where he fell dead, September 27, 1876, while walking down the street with a friend. He is buried in Mobile Alabama.

He was born at Georgetown, Kentucky on either November 30, or December 1, 1821 and graduated from West Point in 1842 by profession an engineer. He was twice brevetted in Mexico. In the beginning of the Civil War, he was commissioned Major General in the confederate army on September 19, 1861. He was in Chief command for a few hours after General Joseph Johnston was wounded at seven pines. He was appointed a Major General of Georgia Militia by governor Joseph Brown. He fought in the battle of Atlanta and on the fortified line at Savannah. He moved to New York City where he resided until his death on June 24, 1896. He is buried in New London, Connecticut.

He was born in 1800. He was a Brigadier General in the Confederate Army. He served as a Politician in South Carolina. Technically, he never actually served in the Confederate Army, but was considered a Brigadier General due to his skills. He died in 1876.

He was the youngest lieutenant general of the Confederacy. He was born in Charleston, South Carolina on September 22, 1833. He graduated from West Point in 1854. He entered confederate service as caption and Aide-De-Camp to General Beauregard by profession an artillerist. He served in the Artillery through all the Virginia Campaigns until Sharpsburg and was promoted through grades to colonel. On November 6, 1862 he was appointed Brigadier General and was assigned to command of General Pemberton's artillery at Vicksburg. He was promoted Major General on August 3, 1863. He resided in Mississippi after the war. He died at Vicksburg on May 28, 1908 and is buried in Columbus, Mississippi.

Lee for assignments and was in route to join up with General Johnston's army, when hostilities terminated. He died on June 1, 1884 and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery.

He was born near Glasgow, Barren County, Kentucky on October 29, 1824. He graduated from Centre College in 1843. He was commissioned colonel of the 6th Kentucky infantry in September 1861. He took part in the battles of Shiloh, Murfreesboro, and Chickamauga and was commanded repeatedly by General John C. Breckinridge. He was promoted Brigadier General from September 30, 1863. General Lewis finally surrendered as a part of Jefferson Davis escort and was paroled at Washington Georgia on May 9, 1865. He resided on his farm in Scott County and died there on July 6, 1904. He is buried in Glasgow.

He was born in Belmont County, Ohio on October 7, 1817 and graduated from West Point in 1840. He saw service in the Seminole War in Florida and was in the war with Mexico. He entered confederate service as a colonel of engineers. He was appointed Brigadier General on January 24, 1862. He was severely wounded at Shiloh. He fought at Murfreesboro and Chickamauga and in the Knoxville Campaign under Longstreet. He was commissioned Major General on May 21, 1864. He died on September 12, 1880 and is buried in City Cemetery, Nashville, Tennessee.

He was born on January 22, 1826 at Harpers Ferry, Virginia. His nickname is the "Swamp Fox". He was elected Brigadier General of the first division of the Missouri State Guard. He lead an irregular force in the swamps of South East, Missouri and North East, Arkansas for much of the war, gaining fame as the Swamp Fox. Fighting in Memphis, Tennessee and in New Orleans, Louisiana. He died on September 5, 1876 in St. Joseph, Missouri and is buried in Mt. Mora Cemetery in St. Joseph.

He was born at Lincolnton, North Carolina on May 27, 1837. He was educated in the local schools and at Kentucky Military Institute. He entered the confederate army as a second lieutenant of the First North Carolina volunteers. He took part in the battle of Big Bethel and was promoted Major and Lieutenant Colonel of the 33rd North Carolina and Colonel of the 21st. He made a distinguished record on all the battlefields of the army of Northern Virginia from the seven days to the campaign of Chancellorsville. He had been appointed Brigadier General on January 17, 1863. He was promoted Major General on April 20, 1864. He died at Raleigh on July 3, 1912 and is buried there.

"Old Pap" was born in Prince Edward County, Virginia on September 20, 1809. He was educated at Hampden-Sydney College. He fought in the Mexican War as a colonel in the Second Missouri infantry. In March 1861, he was president of the state convention that opposed secession for Missouri. He fought at the battle of Wilson's Creek. He was commissioned as Major General on March 6, 1862. He campaigned around Iuka an Cornith in October 1862. He died in St. Louis, Missouri on September 29, 1867 and is buried in Bellefontaine Cemetery.

This CDV is in pretty good condition, it has no cuts or trims on it. His name is written on the upper back. On the front he has a little discoloration below his picture and in his beard. This view is the same as in the book, Generals in Gray and this CDV is a hard one to get. 



He was born in Madison County, Virginia on June 11, 1823. He graduated from Washington College in 1842. He served as caption of the Virginia volunteers in the Mexican War, and later practiced law. He was commissioned colonel of the 7th Virginia infantry, fought in the First Manassas to Williamsburg. He was promoted to Brigadier General on June 3, 1862. He fought under Pickett's division most efficient service until the battle of Gettysburg, where he fell desperately wounded on the third day. He was captured by the federals and was exchanged. He was promoted to Major General on September 19, 1864. He was paroled at Danville on May 2, 1865. He died in Orange County, Virginia on April 7, 1895 and is buried there.

This CDV is very hard to come by. We sold another one that was obviously at the same sitting as this picture for $1,500.00. 

 

He was born in North Carolina, December 2, 1821 and graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1842. He entered the Confederacy as a Captian of the First North Carolina Calvary. He fought at Gettysburg. He was appointed Brigadier General in June of 1864. He was a brother in law to DH Hill and Stonewall Jackson. He died on February 3, 1895 and is buried in Charlotte.

He served in various Indian Campaigns. He won two Brevets for Gallantry in Mexico. He was appointed Brigadier General in the Confederate service on June 17, 1861. He fought in several battles, First Manassas, Marye's Heights at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and in many more. He was made lieutenant general October 9, 1862. General Lee referred to him as his "Old War Horse". He died at Gainesville Georgia on January 2, 1904, the last of the high command of the confederacy. He is buried in Gainesville.

He was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia on May 21, 1822. He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1842. Maury's first post in the confederate army was as colonel and chief of staff to General VanDorn. He was promoted Brigadier General for his conduct at Pea Ridge on March 18, 1862. He fought at Iuka an Corinth and was appointed Major General on November 4, 1862. He died at the home of a son in Peoria, Illinois on January 11, 1900 and was buried in the town of his birth.

He was born on May 19, 1812 in Tennessee. At the age of 16 he entered newspaper work in Paris, Tennessee. He accepted a commission as Brigadier General for the confederacy on July 9, 1861. On January 19, 1862 at Mill Springs he was instantly killed by volley from a Union regiment. He is buried in the City Cemetery, Nashville.

Back mark: Vannerson and Jones, Richmond Virginia

This card is in pretty nice shape, there are no cuts or trims on it. This card has a 2 cent orange tax stamp that has been cancelled on the upper back and has his name written on the lower back of the card. His name is also written on the lower front too. This view of Lee is hard to come by. 



He was the youngest lieutenant general of the Confederacy. He was born in Charleston, South Carolina on September 22, 1833. He graduated from West Point in 1854. He entered confederate service as caption and Aide-De-Camp to General Beauregard by profession an artillerist. He served in the Artillery through all the Virginia Campaigns until Sharpsburg and was promoted through grades to colonel. On November 6, 1862 he was appointed Brigadier General and was assigned to command of General Pemberton's artillery at Vicksburg. He was promoted Major General on August 3, 1863. He resided in Mississippi after the war. He died at Vicksburg on May 28, 1908 and is buried in Columbus, Mississippi.

He was born near Mount Sterling, Kentucky on July 10, 1818 and graduate from Miami University at Oxford, Ohio in 1839. He entered the Confederate Army as Colonel of the 5th Kentucky Infantry on November 16, 1861. He was promoted Brigadier General on April 16, 1862 and served under Humphrey Marshall in Eastern Kentucky and South Western Virginia. After Marshall resigned, he commanded the Department of East Tennessee, in the fall of 1863. He was relieved in November at his own request. He died at Mount Sterling on July 17, 1898. Williams in buried in Winchester.

He was born at Petersburg, Virginia on January 24, 1832. He graduated from West Point in the class of 1854. He was promoted Colonel in 1862 served on Beauregard and Bragg as chief engineer  He was chief of staff to Kirby Smith during the invasion of Kentucky. He was appointed Brigadier General on November 7, 1862. He was wounded in the Wilderness Battle. After General Rodes died, General Pegram succeed to the command of the division. In the fight at Hatchers Run, February 6,1865 he was struck near the heart by a musket ball and died almost immediately. He is buried in Hollywood Cemetery.

He was born in Warrenton, North Carolina on March 22, 1817 and graduated from West Point in the class of 1837. He fought against the Seminoles and served gallantly in the Mexican War. On March 7, 1861 he was appointed and confirmed Brigadier General in the Provisional Army of the confederate states. He was promoted Major General on September 12, 1861. He became chief engineer of Alabama post bellum and later moved to Galveston, Texas, where he fell dead, September 27, 1876, while walking down the street with a friend. He is buried in Mobile Alabama.

Henry Heth was said to have been the only officer in the army of the Northern Virginia whom General Robert E. Lee, addressed by his given name. He was born in Chesterfield County, Virginia on December 16, 1825 and graduated from West Point in 1847 at the bottom of his class. He became colonel of the 45th Virginia infantry. He was promoted Brigadier General on January 6, 1862. He took part in the Kentucky Campaign. He was Major General to rank from October 10, 1862 and was rejected. He fought in the battle of Gettysburg and was severely wounded in that battle. He died in Washington D.C. on September 27, 1899 and is buried in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond.

On the bottom lower front it has written Miley, Lexington, VA. on the brown part of the stock. They have his name written in pencil on the lower front of this card.  



He was born at Charlottesville, Virginia on July 26, 1820 and graduated from West Point in the class of 1841. He resigned from the army of the 7th infantry to enter the confederate army at the same grade. He was lieutenant colonel to Brigadier General on May 15, 1863. He was reported as having been killed while sitting on his horse gazing at the approaching enemy and while engaging in the desperate effort to rally his brigade. He is buried in Charlottesville.

He was born in Halifax County, Virginia on January 11, 1831 and was graduated from South Carolina College at the age of 20. He was appointed Colonel of the 9th Mississippi infantry and commanded at Pensacola Florida for a time. he was promoted Brigadier General on February 13, 1862. He fought at Shiloh, Murfreesboro, North Mississippi, Kentucky, and West Tennessee. He died April 9, 1898 in Memphis, Tennessee. He is buried in Memphis.

He was born at Nashville, Tennessee on October 20, 1820. After service in Mexico where he was a colonel of the Tennessee Volunteers, he became Major General of state Militia. He was appointed a Confederate Brigadier General on July 9, 1861 and he became Major General on March 10, 1862. He distinguished himself as a brigade, division, and corps commander in every engagement of the army of Tennessee from Shiloh to Atlanta. He died on September 4, 1886 and is buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Nashville.

He was one of the high ranking generals in the Confederate army. He was born in Dutchess County, New York on June 12, 1798. He graduated from West Point in 1815. On March 7, 1891 he was immediately appointed Brigadier General in the Confederate army. At the end of the war he retired to his farm near Alexandria, Virginia. He died there on December 3, 1876 and is buried in Christ Church Cemetery, Alexandria.

He is the nephew of the Anti-Slavery Leader, James G. Birney. He was born at Frankfort, Kentucky on Janurary 13, 1812. He graduated from West Point in 1832. He became Brigadier General in the Confederate Army on October 30, 1861. He had minor affair at Princeton, West Virginia. He resigned from the Army on June 16, 1862. He was reappointed 4 days later, to rank from the date of his first appointment. He fought with General Bragg in the Kentucky invasion in the Fall of 1862. Marshall died on March 28, 1872 in Louisville and is buried in the state cemetery at Frankfort.

This is a pretty nice CDV overall, it has no cuts or trims but it has a crease that comes down from the upper top, down to around his forehead, but it doesn't effect the image. This is a very tough view of Beaurgard. On the lower front it has typed W. W. Washburn and New Orleans, as you can see. He is dressed in his confederate uniform. 



He was born in Saint Bernard Parish, Louisiana on May 28,1818. He graduated second in the class of 1838 at West Point. In February of 1861 he was appointed Brigadier General of the army of CSA on March 1, 1861. He was placed in command at Charleston and supervised the reduction of Fort Sumter in April. He fought at first Manassas, Shiloh and in other battles. General Beaurgard died in New Orleans, on February 20, 1893 and is buried in Metairie Cemetery.

He was born at Russellville, Logan County, Kentucky on March 20, 1812. He graduated from West Point in the class of 1832 and saw service in the Black Hawk War. His brother Thomas became a Major General for the Union. George was Brigadier General in the Confederate Army on August 15, 1861 and Major General in August 1862. He died in Danville, Kentucky on November 27, 1880 and is buried in the State Cemetery at Frankfort.

(Old Allegheny) He was born at Salisbury Chesterfield County, Virginia on April 16, 1816. He moved to Kentucky with his parents at a young age and was educated there also. He graduated from West Point in the class of 1838. He went into the Confederate services as Colonel of the 12th Georgia Infantry. He was promoted Brigadier General on December 13, 1861 and Major General on February 28, 1863. He fought in the Vally Campaign in 1862 where he was wounded. He lead Stonewall Jackson's old devision in Gettysburg, the Wilderness, and Spotsylvania. He was captured while defending the bloody angle. He lead a devision of General Steven D. Lee's corpes in the Tennessee Campaign. He died in Richmond on March 2, 1873 and is buried in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond.

"Old Pap" was born in Prince Edward County, Virginia on September 20, 1809. He was educated at Hampden-Sydney College. He fought in the Mexican War as a colonel in the Second Missouri infantry. In March 1861, he was president of the state convention that opposed secession for Missouri. He fought at the battle of Wilson's Creek. He was commissioned as Major General on March 6, 1862. He campaigned around Iuka an Cornith in October 1862. He died in St. Louis, Missouri on September 29, 1867 and is buried in Bellefontaine Cemetery.

He was born in Boston, Mass. on December 29, 1809. In his early years, he was a brilliant teacher, poet, author, lawyer, editor, and exponent of free masonry. He was also a Brigadier General of the Confederacy. In 1861, he negotiated treaties with the Indians west of the Arkansas River and ally them to the Confederate cause. With these Indian troops, he fought at Elk Horn Tavern. Pike resigned on July 12, 1862. He died in the house of the Scottish Rite Temple, Washington, on April 2, 1891 and is buried in Oakhill Cemetery.

He was born on January 22, 1826 at Harpers Ferry, Virginia. His nickname is the "Swamp Fox". He was elected Brigadier General of the first division of the Missouri State Guard. He lead an irregular force in the swamps of South East, Missouri and North East, Arkansas for much of the war, gaining fame as the Swamp Fox. Fighting in Memphis, Tennessee and in New Orleans, Louisiana. He died on September 5, 1876 in St. Joseph, Missouri and is buried in Mt. Mora Cemetery in St. Joseph.

He was in command in East Tennessee in his division, launched the attack of Bragg's army at the battle of Murfreesboro on December 31, 1862. He died in Littlerock, Arkansas on January 22, 1879 and is buried in Magnolia.

He was born at Stratford in West Morelind County, Virginia on January 19, 1807. He was the overall highest ranking general throughout the Civil War for the Confederacy. He was the high command of the Northern Virginia army.  He fought in pretty much ever major battle East of the Mississippi River. (There is a lot of history on him, too much to write even a fraction of it) He died at Lexington on October 12, 1870 and is buried there. He was the president of Washington College at Lexington, Virginia.

He was rapidly promoted from Brigadier General on June 17, 1861 to Major General ranking from January 14, 1862 and to Lieutenant General ranking from October 10, 1862. He was assigned to the command of the Department of Mississippi and Eastern Louisiana. He died on July 13, 1881 at Penllyn. He was buried in Philly, PA.

He is the eldest son of Robert E. Lee, was born at Fortress Monroe, Virginia on September 16, 1832. Upon his graduation from the Military Acedemy at the head of the class in 1854, he served as an Engineer Officer in various parts of the country. He became Brigadier General on June 25, 1863 and Major General on October 20, 1864. President Davis sent him on a lot of important missions and sometimes he was consulted by his father. He succeeded his father as President of the College, Washington and Lee University. He died on February 18, 1913 and is buried in Lexington.

A Guerilla leader in the Civil War. He rode with the likes of the James' Brothers. Cole Unger and other members of the "James Gang" with raides throughout the Midwest, eventually caught up with them. He was killed in the War.

He was born on December 3, 1806 at Drummond Town, Virginia. He graduated at Washington College, PA, in 1825. Three years later he opened a Law ofice in nashville Tenneesse. He was appointed a Brigadier General on June 5th , 1861. At the head of the Wise Legion and other troops. He fought in the West Virginia Campaign under Robert E. Lee, again in North Carolina under Beauregard in the defense of Charleston, and in Florida. From May 1864 to the end he was on the Petersburg line at Drewry's Bluff and in Richard H. Anderson's Corps in the defense of Richmond. He died at Richmond on September 12, 1876 and is buried in Hollywood Cemetery.

Hillard was born in 1808. He was a Colonel of the Hillard's Alabama Legion. He was a pre-war wig Politician, US Congressman, and Diplomat. He was also a Montgomery, Alabama lawyer. Hillard is called a General in a Biographical Article in Cyclopedia of Americal Biography. He died in the year of 1892.

He was born at Cherry Hill, Jefferson County, Georgia on September 7, 1815 and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1854. He was appointed Secretary of the Treasury by President Beuchanan in 1857. He was a strong candidate for president of the new confederacy. He was appointed Brigadier General on February 12, 1862 and Major General on September 9, 1863. He was the Commander of the District of Georgia. He died in New York City while he was on a business trip, on October 9, 1868. He is buried in Oconee Hill Cemetery, Athens, Georgia.

I was told that this back mark, is a Lousiana back mark, but im not 100% sure. This CDV is in decent condition overall, there are no cuts or trims on it. It's starting to show its age a little bit. His name is written on the upper back in pencil.

 

He was born in Owingsville, Kentucky on June 1, 1831. He graduated from West Point in the class of 1853. Had by all odds, the most spectacular advanced in rank of any officer in the Confederate service. He was the division commander in the Army of Northern Virginia. Promoted brigadier general to rank on March 3, 1862. He fought in the Peninsular Campaign and at Second Manasass, appointed Major General on October 10, 1862 and was a division commander under General Longstreet. He fought at Sharpsburg, Fredricksburg, and Gettysburg, where he lost his arm and leg at Chickamauga and was appointed Lieutenant General on February 1, 1894. He was promoted full General on July 18, 1864. He was repulsed by Sherman in the battles of Peach Tree Creek, Atlanta, Ezra Church, and Jonesboro. He resided after the war in New Orleans and died of Yellow Fever there. He is buried in Metairie Cemetery, in New Orleans.

(Old Pete) He was the senior lieutenant general of the Confederate Army. He was born in Edgefield District, South Carolina, January 8, 1821. He graduated from West Point in 1842. He served in various Indian Campaigns. He won two Brevets for Gallantry in Mexico. He was appointed Brigadier General in the Confederate service on June 17, 1861. He fought in several battles, First Manassas, Marye's Heights at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and in many more. He was made lieutenant general October 9, 1862. General Lee referred to him as his "Old War Horse". He died at Gainesville Georgia on January 2, 1904, the last of the high command of the confederacy. He is buried in Gainesville.

There is a cancelled orange 2 cent stamp which looks like it might be dated back to 1865. This CDV is in pretty nice condition overall, there are no cuts or trims on this card. This is the same head view as in the book, Generals in Gray. 

 

He was called Seminole at West Point. He was born at St. Augustine, Florida on May 16, 1824. His early education was at Benjamin Hollowell's School in Alexandria, Virginia. He graduated from West Point in 1845. He entered the Confederate Services as Lieutenant Colonel and served in the Shenandoah under J. E. Johnston on June 17, 1861. He was commissioned Brigadier General and was severely wounded at First Manassas the following month. He was promoted Major General on October 11, 1861 and in 1862 was in command of the district of East Tennessee. He participated in the invasion on Kentucky. He was promoted Lieutenant General on October 9, 1862. He was in command of the Trans-Mississippi dept. After the War, he was for 2 years, president of the Pacific and Atlantic telegraph company. He died at Sewanee, Tennessee on March 28, 1893 and is buried there.

This CDV is showing it's true age. There is a thumbtack hole at the top, as well as some numbers written. His name is written in pencil on the upper and lower back of the CDV. This is a more difficult view of Pillow to find. 

 

He was born in Williamson County, Tennessee on June 8, 1806. He graduated from the University of Nashville in 1827. He ran for office in 1852, and 1856 for Vice Presidency but was declined. In 1861, he was appointed Brigadier General in the Confederate Army. He was at the battle of Belmont, Missouri in November of 1861. He was in second command at Fort Donelson, the following February. He died near Helena, Arkansas on October 8, 1878 and is buried in Memphis.

He was born at Augusta, Georgia on September 10, 1836 and graduated from West Point in 1859. On September 4, 1861 he was appointed Colonel of the 19th Alabama Infantry. He was promoted Brigadier General on October 30, 1862 and Major General on January 20, 1863. He commanded the Cavalry during Bragg's invasion on Kentucky at Murfreesboro and in the Chattanooga Campaign. He resided for a time in New Orleans after the war. General Wheeler died in Brooklyn, New York on January 25, 1906 and is buried in Arlington.

This CDV is in pretty nice condition overall, there are no cuts or trims on this card. The front is very clean, whereas the back has some pencil writing on it. This view has him in his Confederate Uniform. 

 

He is the nephew of the Anti-Slavery Leader, James G. Birney. He was born at Frankfort, Kentucky on Janurary 13, 1812. He graduated from West Point in 1832. He became Brigadier General in the Confederate Army on October 30, 1861. He had minor affair at Princeton, West Virginia. He resigned from the Army on June 16, 1862. He was reappointed 4 days later, to rank from the date of his first appointment. He fought with General Bragg in the Kentucky invasion in the Fall of 1862. Marshall died on March 28, 1872 in Louisville and is buried in the state cemetery at Frankfort.

This CDV is in pretty good condition overall, there are no cuts or trims on this card. His last name is written on the back in ink, otherwise a very clean card. 

 

He fought in the American Civil War for the COnfederacy for a year, being made brigadier general, and frequently had command of the defenses of Richmond. He was involved in the Battle of Elizabeth City and many others. After the war he took up his residence  in Washington D.C. and was involved in the movement to liberate Cuba from Spanish Rule. He died in 1877 without ever winning any of the causes for which he fought.

He was born at Port Royal, Virginia on May 1, 1807 and graduated from West Point in 1830. He was appointed Brigadier General of the Confederate Army on June 17, 1861, and Major General on October 7. He distinguished himself in the early part of the Peninsular Campaign. He fought in the Seven Days Battles, and was in command of the District of Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. After the war, he went to Mexico with General Joe Shelby to fight for the emperor Maximilian. He made his home in Huston, Texas, where he died on February 18, 1871.

(Old Allegheny) He was born at Salisbury Chesterfield County, Virginia on April 16, 1816. He moved to Kentucky with his parents at a young age and was educated there also. He graduated from West Point in the class of 1838. He went into the Confederate services as Colonel of the 12th Georgia Infantry. He was promoted Brigadier General on December 13, 1861 and Major General on February 28, 1863. He fought in the Vally Campaign in 1862 where he was wounded. He lead Stonewall Jackson's old devision in Gettysburg, the Wilderness, and Spotsylvania. He was captured while defending the bloody angle. He lead a devision of General Steven D. Lee's corpes in the Tennessee Campaign. He died in Richmond on March 2, 1873 and is buried in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond.

He was born in Rutherfold County, Tennessee on November 11, 1811. He is the older brother of General Henry  McCulloch. On his frontier days, his neighbor was Davy Crockett. He was commissioned as Brigadier General in the Confederate Army on May 11, 1861. He was assigned to the Command of Troops in Arkansas. In August, he won the battle of Wilson's Creek together with Price's Missouri Troops. He fought at Elk Horn Tavern on March 7, 1862. He was fatilly wounded by a Federal Sharp Shooter. He died almost immediately. His body was removed to the State Cemetery in Austin, Texas.

He was (Bishop/Militant) born in Raleigh, North Carolina on April 10, 1806. He graduated from West Point in the class of 1827. Upon the outbreak of the Civil War, he was appointed Major General in the provisional army of the Confederacy on June 25, 1861 and Lieutenant General on October 10, 1862. He commanded the department #2 including the Mississippi River, Defenses from the Red River to Paducah, Kentucky. He also organized the Army of Mississippi, later a part of the Army of Tennessee. He commanded at Shiloh, Perryville, Murfreesboro, Chickamauga, and in the opening operations of the Atlanta Campaign. While examining the federal position with Generals Johnston and Hardee, General Polk was instantly killed by a cannon shot at Pine Mountain, near Marietta, Georgia on June 14, 1864. He is buried in Christ Church Cathedral in New Orleans. He was an Uncle of General Lucius E. Polk.

This CDV is in pretty nice shape overall, there are no cuts or trims on this card. There is a little bit of writing in pencil on the upper back. 

 

He was born in Charleston, South Carolina, on May 9, 1813. He is the son of Major James Simons. He was a Brigadier General of the South Carolina Militia. His father was a revolutionary war officer and a state represenitive. He attended Pendleton Academy, the College of Charleston and he was a graduate of the University of South Carolina in 1833. He commanded the 4th Brigade, as well as Morris Island during the Fort Sumter Bombardment. He was appointed to command Morris Island on April 11, and was releived of command by Gov. Pickens on April 29. He resigned his commission on July 10, 1861. General Simons died in Charleston on April 26, 1879 and is buired in a Family Plot in Magnolia Cemetery in Charleston.

Original Albium of Confederate General Robert H. Anderson

 

This is a nice original albium of Anderson without the card stock that it should be mounted to. This would be nice to find an original stock to mount it to. This is a hard image to find. 

 

He was born in Savannah, Georgia on October 1, 1835. He entered West Point and was brevetted a Second Lieutenant of Infantry on July 1, 1857. He was appointed a Lieutenant of Artillery in Sept. of 1861. He was promoted Major and Assistant Adjutant General to General W. H. T. Walker, then in Command on the Georgia Coast. He was made Colonel of the 5th Georgia Calvary on Janurary 1863. He was ordered to the army of Tennessee in Allen's Brigade. On July 26, 1864, he was appointed Brigadier General. He participated in Wheelers Calvary Corps, Anderson's Brigade and participated in all the ingagements until the surrender in North Carolina. He died Feburary 8, 1888 and is buried in Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah.

Original Albium of Confederate General Richard Ewell

 

This is a nice original albium of Ewell without the card stock. This would be nice to find an original stock to mount it to. This is a variation of the image in the book, Generals in Gray.

 

He was born in George Town, DC, on February 8, 1817. He graduated from West Point in 1840. He was commissioned Brigadier General on June 17, 1861, Major General on Janurary 24, 1862, and Lieutenant General to succeed Stonewall Jackson in command of the Sencond Corps on May 23, 1863. He fought in battles at First Manassas, the Seven Days, Second Manassas (where he lost a leg in the battle), Grovetown. He fought from Gettysburg to Spotsylvania. He was in charge of the Richmond defenses and he was captured at Sayler's Creek on April 6, 1865. He died in Springhill,  Tennessee on Janurary 25, 1874 and is buried in the Old City Cemetery, Nashville.

This CDV is in pretty good condition overall, there are no cuts or trims on this card. His name is written on the lower front, but the back is clean. 

 

He was born at Georgetown, Kentucky on either November 30, or December 1, 1821 and graduated from West Point in 1842 by profession an engineer. He was twice brevetted in Mexico. In the beginning of the Civil War, he was commissioned Major General in the confederate army on September 19, 1861. He was in Chief command for a few hours after General Joseph Johnston was wounded at seven pines. He was appointed a Major General of Georgia Militia by governor Joseph Brown. He fought in the battle of Atlanta and on the fortified line at Savannah. He moved to New York City where he resided until his death on June 24, 1896. He is buried in New London, Connecticut.
