Joseph Shelby (1830-1897) Noted American Civil War Confederate Cavalry General in the Trans-Mississippi Theater. 



Check Signed, "Jos. Shelby" on a check drawn on The Farmer's Bank of Missouri," October 12, 1860 (just days before the beginning of the Civil War), Lexington, MO, 3.25" x 7.5," Choice Extremely Fine. Minor folds and some small marginal tears at the left bottom obverse. Shelby's signature remains cold, clear and problem-free.

Remington was born in October, 28 1793 and died on August 12, 1861. He designed the Remington ridle and founded what is now known as the Remington Arms co., L.L.C. He was known as E. Remington, followed by E. Remington and son, and finally, E. Remington and sons.

Back mark: E. F. Everitt, Mankato Minn.

The condition of this card is in decent shape and condition. On the lower front it has his name written and killed in 76. On the back of this CDV it has "The bank robber killed at Northfield" as well as his name written in pen. He rode with the James Gang. This is a post mortem view. You can see where he was shot in the chest, with the blood below the wound, and also in the forehead.

This card is in pretty nice condition overall. Written on the back has "Charlie Pitts- Veteran of Quantrill's Guerrilla force (1863). Road with Jesse and Frank James and younger brothers (Cole, Bob, and Jim). Robbing the Northfield, Minnesota, First Nation Bank, Sept. 7, 1876". This is a post mortem view.

Back mark: F. V. Bingham, Northfield Minn. 

This CDV is in nice shape, but it looks like the corners are rounded, as you can see. Their last names are written on the upper back of the card in pencil. 



This is a neat view of both men in their post mortem view, where it shows that they are both shot and killed. You can see both the bullet holes and blood on the bodies. They road along with the James Gang.

Joseph Shelby, written check 

Check Size: 7 7/8 by 3 3/8

The check was written October 23, 1858, pre Civil War. It was written in the amount for $275.00, it has the cancelled out writing on it. In his signature, it looks like the B and the Y in his last name got smeared. The check is a Lexington, Missouri and on the back it has Lucius Washburne.

Original Card of Confederate General Archibald C. Godwin

Card Size: Albium is 3 3/4 by 5 1/2 on a stock back that is 3 7/8 by 5 3/4



This card is in really nice shape overall. It has written A. C. Godwin on the lower front in pencil and no writing on the back at all. 



He was born in Virginia in 1831. Confederate General in the Civil War. At Winchester September 19, 1864, he was instantly killed by a shell fragment. He is buried there in Stonewall Cemetery.

Card Size: Albium is 5 7/8 by 3 1/8 on a stock that is 7 by 3 1/2



The condition is pretty good overall. On the front sides it has "The War For The Union" and on the other side it has "Photographic History", as you can see. On the back from the actual card is written "War Views. The original Swamp Angel Gun, Morris Island, S. C. No. 3602. Published by E&HT Anthony and Co. American and Foreign stereoscopic emporium, 501 Broadway, New-York"

This CDV is in good condition overall, there are no cuts or trims on it. There is no pencil/pen writing on the front or back at all. This CDV speaks for itself.

Original CDV Olive Oatmen

Card Size: App. 2 3/8 by 4

 

Back mark: Powelson, 58 State St. Rochester, New York

This card is not in the best condition, the corners are clipped and is trimmed slightly. On the back of the card it has a partial orange cancelled stamp. You can see the overall condition of the card. This is the more difficult view to find of Oatmen. 

 

Oatmen moved out West as a young child. She traveled in wagons with hundreds of other people in the mid 1800s. The Indians massacred pretty much the whole wagon-train but kept a few of the people alive, including Oatmen and her younger sister. They tattooed the lower part of her face and kept her in their tribe as a slave.

The condition of this card overall is not too bad. As you can see, the card is starting to darken up a little bit with age. There are no cuts or trims on this card. 

 

Suskie was a servent with her daughter up in Palifly and in Linden Hall?

Back mark: D. Haas, Alexandria, VA

This card is in pretty good shape overall, although it's a little dark due to aging. The corners are slightly rounded. There is a cancelled blue 2 cent stamp on the back of this CDV. 

 

He looks to be dressed as somebody that would have worked on the supply lines and wagons. Transfering goods for the Union Army.

Card Size: App. 2 3/8 by 4

 

Back mark: S.H. Colesworthy, Portland, ME

The condition of this CDV is aging. You can see that there is a black circle mark on the bottom, that doesn't effect that actual image. There is a slight crease on the right side towards the lower half of this CDV. Overall it's a nice card, there are no cuts or trims on this card.  

 

The infamous actor, John Wilkes Booth, that is known for assassinating Abe Lincoln.

This is a quarter plate tintype of Two Union Soldiers, standing side by side. They are both holding a musket gun with a bayonet, in uniform. You can see their brest plates and belt buckles, and kepis. I'm not sure on all the research on this item. Picture is in a full case.

This is a Sixth plate of a Union Soldier in a standing view. You can see his brest plate and belt buckle shine. He has two pistols, a musket, and is wearing a kepi. He is standing next to the American flag. I was told that this soldier is probably from New York co. but I'm not sure which one. This picuture is in a full case. The case is in pretty good condition, and still has all its latches and is in full contact.

This is a sixth plate Tin Type of a Union Soldier.

He is wearing his full uniform and has his sword and scabbard on the side of his belt. He's wearing his kepi. The soldier is standing next to a table. The view of this Tin Type image is pretty clear. This comes in a half case. 

 

Tin Type #363

A double sixth plated Ambro Type of 2 Union Soldiers that appear to be brothers. Both fully dressed in their uniforms, it shows their sword and scabbards, belt plates, and kepi's. This is the approximate size of the pictures. Comes in a full case that is damaged as you can see, but could most likely be repaired. 

 

Ambro Type #366

This is an Ambro Type of a young Civil War drummer boy in uniform. It has a full case that is strongly intacked and still has a latch that connects. On the inside of the picture, it has a tag that reads "Young Civil War Soldier 'Drummer boy' Ruby Ambro." This Ambro type was sold for $200.00 at one point.

A cancelled check with Sherman's autograph on it, from the year 1876. The check was dated October 27, 1876 and it is signed in the original brown ink.

Back mark: none

 

This CDV of Clell Miller is in pretty rough shape overall as you can see, but a very hard CDV to obtain. You can see that his name is written on the front and back of this card. There is a slight description on the bottom front stating his height, which is 5 foot 9 inches, and that he was apart of the Northfield Robbery. 

 

He rode with the likes of Jesse James and the Younger Brothers. This is a post-mortem view of Clell Miller, when he was shot and killed attempting to rob the bank at Northfield, Minnesota.

Alfred Conrad Girard (1841-1914)

Army Brigadier General

 

This Check is from The Riggs National Bank, Washinton DC, May 2, 1899. With an imprinted revenue stamp. 

 

He was a Brigadier General in the Union army and a physician. At the close of the Spanish-American war equipped the hospital at the Presidio, California, he took care of 19,000 patients in 3 years. That is his authentic signature, and this check comes with a certificate of authenticity.

There are three ribbons attached to it, with a pin on the back. The ribbons are blank with nothing on them. The picture of Stonewall Jackson is really nice. This is definitely an original period pin.

This is a sixth plate tintype of a Union Soldier, that possibly could be a Corporal , due to he has insignia on both arms sleeves (but I cant really tell the ranking). He is wearing a kepi on his head. He is in the full case, which is actually in pretty good condition overall, and still has the latch to keep it closed.

Original Cab Card "The Buck Gang" Henry Starr

Card Size: 6 1/2 by 4 1/4

 

This card is in pretty good condition overall.

Antique Cabnet card of a few of the Rufus Gang Native American Outlaw. In the picture is Henry Starr taken in Wetumka Indian Territory, Oklahoma. They all were jailed in Fort Smith, Arkansas at the same time captured. 

 

Henry Starr was born in 1873 and died in 1921. He was an American house thief and train robber. He was killed by W. J. Myers with a .38 Caliber Winchester Rifle {1873} while attempting to rob a bank in Harrison, Arkansas.

Original Cab Card

Union General Frank Wheaton

 

This is a cabnet card of General Frank Wheaton. You can see the information on the back that basically talks about his life history.

 

He was born on May 8, 1833 in Rhoad Island. He left Brown University at the age of 17 in order to take a job with the Mexican-American boundary commission. His family was divided on both sides of the Civil War and he chose to fight for the Union. He fought at First Mannassas. He succeeded command as of July 21, 1861. In the Campaign of the Virginia peninsula, the second Rhoad Island, was in Keyes forth Corps, at Williamsburg. On November 29, 1862, he was promoted Brigadier General. He fought at Fredricksburg in 1862. And he was at Chancelorsville, and fought in many other battles also. He died in Washington on June 18, 1903, and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

This is a discharge form for Levi J. Konean. Company D 198 Regiment of Pennsylvania Infantry. The Commanding Officer in signature is Thomas Chamberlain, the brother of Joshua Chamberlain.  

This document is in good condition. It does have its natural crease.

This is a Calling Card from Union General Elwell Stephen Otis. He was a United States of America General who served in the American Civil War, Indian Wars, the Philippines late in the Spanish–American War and during the Philippine–American War. He was born on March 25, 1838 in Frederick, Maryland and died on October 21, 1909 in Rochester, New York.

This looks to be a Union Soldier but not 100% sure (the collar looks to have some type of insignia but not sure). Soldier gives an appearance of Indian decent.

This is a Quarter plate Tin Type of two Union Soldier who appear to be brothers both standing side by side hoding their kepis. This Tin Type is very clear looking with a nice picture. The tape on the back writes "David and Ruben at Vineland Coleman 3rd NJ Cav-Civil War- Buried at Pleasant Mills NJ." It is in a full case, but the case is separated.

This is a ninth plate Ambro type of a Union soldier wearing his kepi and holding his jacket. This is a half case that still has the locking latch attached. There is providence writing on the inside of the case that looks to be original "Jas Buthen Volunteer 80th NY/NJ O.V. USA Captain Robinson Co. C... Feb 12, 62."
